Consul General of Peru in San Francisco, Hernando Torres-Fernandez spoke on Feb 18, 2021 as part of the United States Postal Services Ceremony for the USPS Building Bridges Special Postal Cancellation, which acknowledges the friendship between San Francisco and Lima, the Peru Bicentario 2021, the visit of the B.A.P. Union Naval Tall Ship to San Francisco in 2019. The history of Peru on Treasure Island that dates back to Feb 18, 1939, when the Consul General of Peru in San Francisco spoke on the occasion of the grand opening day of the Golden Gate International Exposition.

In fact, this date for this ceremony, was chosen in honor of this long time friendship between the Consulate of Peru in San Francisco and the City of San Francisco, manifest by their shared history and many interconnections in commerce, arts, food, culture and history.
